The kid was about 10-15 feet in fornt of them in an RV park...it was not wandering around in a diaper with a Bear Grylls knife!
 
The West Highland Terrier or Westie probably couldn't fend off a coyote much less a cougar or even an angry raccoon.

Just out of curiousity, how big was the wolf dog?
 
Which is why she never lets them out of her sight!



She was towards the larger end of the German Shepherd spectrum.
 
I have a 120lb Great Pyr...he literally tears coyotes apart! he was feral for 3 months before i rescued him

So now I've read that which took me all the effort of opening google and then wiki I'm sticking with the people on the trip should have been paying attention. I don't care if the kid was only 15 feet away from them, they're on an island with appararently a relatively large (I assume that's what "concentrated" means) cougar population so its their own fault. Doesn't matter if they're hiking a trial or sat in a camp they should of been aware of the potential dangers.
 
Whoops! I completely got the wrong end of the stick - for some reason i got it into my head you meant in the RV park where the cougars are pretty rare (unless the vodka and crnaberry is flowing and then they come out the woodwork)

I don't think it is negligent per se, just a reminder that nature owns all
 
This is obviously why every chav at bus stops all across London carry knives. The bleedin' threat of cougar attacks. Outrageous behavior by these cats.

The over 28s now that was a scary place when i was younger i was literally attacked from all Angles and have never been back since.

I have seen "sabretooths" in some bars too...the uniform is a potent attractor of said species for some reason
