The slot cover for the data cable to my Nokia 5310 is stuck! Can you help?

I tried to use the data cable for my Nokia 5310 today, and it wouldn't work. There's a little cover over the slot that the USB port goes into, and it won't come off. I don't want to force it off, because of the risk of breaking it, but it seems like I have to.

What do you do?
