Failed to get a good resolution to a situation with my son today. He was a bit anxious about an after school activity and refused to go, I didn't manage to talk him round, tried lots of things but failed. It was my fault and I couldn't sort the problem, which sucks because he missed out on something he would have enjoyed if I could have convinced him.

Damnit this parenting mullarky is difficult sometimes.

If he didn't want it better you don't push too hard. Parents do tend to know better but kids have to wreck their own lives I guess. It's only what we did. Better in primary school, did as they where bloody well told at that age )

Kids can be stubborn though, and sometimes nothing you can say will change minds. It's not like they react to logic and reason. I remember not budging on things like that when I was young and missing out. But I only ever did it once when I heard what I had missed out on.

Don't be so hard on yourself - you're obviously going to blame yourself because you're the father and therefore have the responsibility, but when you're that young and that anxious survival instincts kick in.

From the person who likes to think he's old, but in reality has the mentality of a 6 year old and just about remembers that age

Don't blame yourself Mitch. If he was that scared it's probably better than he comes to try it in his own time. Much better that he gets to a point where he's doing it because he wants to.

Thanks folks, it'll be fine, I'm just a bit fed up, mostly because I don't want him to miss out. I need to work on making him more confident about trying different things I suppose.

Sometimes it's easier if they have a relative involved like their favourite uncle or auntie. We're more like a friend rather than the big bad NO that parents are. It's less pressure.

The EMA cut got through. Looking for a job anyway but that 30 quid was a godsend in keeping me in training.

I like how the tories bitched its not spent properly but this is after the expenses scandal and on the same day the EU fine them a billion for dicking with EU money.

Just leave him be for a while. When I was a kid my parents put me into things like skating qhich i hated as a kid because my balance see, i fell down much more than anyone else. So I quit it. But I took it up again when I was older and my balance was better

It might be something he might like when he gets older.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!! Stupid HMV!!! Ordered a limited edition blu-ray off them on the 28th December 2010. Sent emails asking where the hell was it after it didn't show. Was sent an email to fill out to say if I wanted a refund or a replacement. Chose the latter, and today I dot an email saying they're going to refund me as it has sold out!!! Now I can buy the same limited edition blu-ray for up to £80 on ebay. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!
