As I've stated before in one of my questions, I am 17 years old, 160lbs, and 5'10. I have no real experience with motorcycles/dirtbikes, and the only experience I do have is with a 50cc scooter which I can TOTALLY handle, but its extremely slow. I recently pulled out my old 1984 honda xr350 and tried riding it today, and despite the heavyness and height of the bike, I think I can learn on it and handle it. I've tried to buy a car in the past, but due to money issues I thought an enduro would be more practical for someone like me, for many reasons (gas, I can ride it on my own immediately with a motorcycle permit). I talked to my parents the other day about it and my mom says bikes are extremely dangerous and I doubt she will allow me to ride an enduro on the street (I'm going to buy a dual sport kit and put it on my dirt bike). I think if I proved to her I can ride well, she MIGHT let me ride on the street, but I still doubt it. Should I just ditch this idea and wait a LONG time to get a car, or start practicing now on the dirt bike and eventually street legalize it? I'm really unsure of what to do D:

You must have transportation. You already have a bike that can cheaply be made street legal. Ask your mom if she is going to allow you to ride your fuel efficient bike or if she is going to help you buy a car.

But you have to take this decision seriously too. Every day bikers who are totally in the right get turned into road pizza by automobile drivers who arent paying attention. On a bike it isn't enough to follow the rules of the road and be in the right at all times. When you are on a bike you need to ride like the world is out to get you, because they are. If you are not prepared for the risk and the added attention you need to stay alive then you shouldn't ride on the road.

Honestly, get a car first. Bikes are fun but I got a bike first and it's an 82 and I'm constantly doing maintenance to it. Winters are cold you need helmets and protective gear. Bikes are a money pit. You poor money into them. I highly recommend motorcycles...to anyone who already has a car.
