I am going to Australia in two weeks, and my doctor is going to prescribe medication to help me sleep on the flight (approximately 24 hours total flying time from New York to Melbourne). Both medications that we are considering are considered "Controlled Substances" by the Australian govt (clonazepam and Ambien). I haven't been able to find a clear answer on the Australian government's websites but I was wondering if I would need a permit to "import" these substances into the country.
I am not looking to import them (I don't think, anyway). I will be in the country for 2 weeks and will only have enough medication for the flights and a few nights during my stay if the jet lag is keeping me from sleeping.
Does anyone have any experience traveling to Australia with either of these medications? I would like to avoid having my medication confiscated by Customs.
Thanks!
