Not just because of sex or anything, but because of my periods. I get bad pains during my periods and terrible PMS. I'm going to be with other people so I was wondering if going on the pill would be a good idea. I've never been on it before and I may get side affects or something...

Maybe you should just talk to your doctor for something for your pain. Being on birth control, makes your body become dependent on the hormones in it. So when you come off of it, you may not feel like yourself anymore!

I would only go on it now if you have a few months to get used to it before you go start travelling. I know a lot of people who can only be on a very low dose pill because they basically PMS 24/7 with all the hormones, so that would be worse. The first month or so on the pill is a bit up and down for weight gain and spotting for many people.
The upside is you will know when to expect your period while travelling, and could skip it if you were due for your period when you are going to be at the beach or something.
