Ubuntu question.. I burned ubuntu to a DVD put it in my other PC followed the

directions nowy PC broken HELP? I have a dell XPS 400. I called dell so they could help me set it back to factory settings. Everything was just fine for a very long time but then my PC started acting all F-ed up so I went to reinstall the OS but it would not let me. I pressed Ctrl F11 but it doesnt bring me to the right menu. I research a bit and was told that my recovery program that does not need discs was disabled when dell helped me the first time. They had to do something els involving whatever starts my computer and starts the OS. So after i tryed to use Ctrl F11 and it wouldnt work i went on the net and found Ubuntu. I followed th steps and i beleve it erase my hardrive but now i cant get anything to work right. I cant get to my desktop because i dont think theres one there lol. Im not exactly sure what to do or if i miissunderstood the directions that ubuntu said to do. Any suggestions?
