US embassies attacked

Some of the high points I got from GOOGLE-ing around.

a.) The person of interest currently being interviewed was variously identified by different sources as an Israeli, Egyptian, Coptic Christian and English (?) citizen. The evidence seems to be piling up that the guy is probably former Coptic Egyptian who still has ties to the Coptic community in Egypt. Apparently there are some hard feelings between the Copts and the Muslims in various communities and this was suppose to be a poke at them. The head of the Coptic Church in California extended an apology to some community avowing that the actions of the moron who did this did NOT reflect attitudes in the Coptic Community in general. It doesn't help that the goof in Florida that wanted to burn the Koran went public to say that he supports the way Mohammed was characterized and that this is a First Ammendment issue. Sheesh!

b.) There is another person-of-interest, an ex-Marine and conservative/right-wing Christian who does a lot of demonstrating along conservative lines, such as protesting outside abortion clinics and what-not. Among other things this guy seems to think that the Muslims deserve the sort of crappy treatment such as the film represents.

c.) AP talked to the actors in the film and they were completely blindsided by all of this. The movie reportedly was altered in post-production with language crudely dubbed over the dialogue. The actors report that during the actual production there was none of the insulting tone or language and they are now having to hide because they are suspected of being in on the whole mess.

Just some passing tidbits.......

Best Wishes,

Bruce

This is where my opinion becomes straight forward and offensive. I understand pretty well the cultural differences and the factors involved. I've been to a few of those countries myself. There is so much beyond just this video that has caused this and much of it is my own countries meddling. However, I could sympathize with an attack on the embassies if it happened with the intent of "down with America" because of the crap that we do. I cannot sympathize with religious offenses being the reason. What I'm seeing is a group of people taking offense to something mocking a religion and being violent about it (or at least allowing that to be their argument). That is backwards, unwarranted, and I would expect a bullet to be put in my head if I did such a thing so you can probably guess how I feel people like this should be dealt with? A deterrent of the highest degree: You will be killed if you do stuff like this.

This isn't about religion to me. This is about unruly people who need to be put in line. I have no respect for the culture if it truly allows things like this to go on (which it doesn't). The statement of having no respect for such actions and the culture that allows it does not mean I don't understand it, it just means I understand it and still find the acknowledgment and acceptance irrelevant to their actions. However, I will admit and acknowledge there is much more to this situation and that it is rather sad that they are using the mockery of their religions figures to be the justification of their actions when they have so many more legitimate atrocities they could claim.

THANK YOU!

We all did the best we could in the manner available to us. I dont discount anyones efforts and I dont see how anyone can discount ours.

Nevermind. It's pointless to carry this on. Why would I think about going up against a mod anyway? Thats just silly stuff. I never thought I'd see the day when it was UK vs US. Silly me, I always thought we were allies. Thanks Aikiewolfie, lesson learned mate.

This is also the problem with American. You think that a friend cannot criticise you. Whereas in Britain it's your friends who are supposed to criticise you so you learm from it and you know it's an honest opinion. We are far harsher to our own people that we ever are to outsiders.

The Bear.

I can take criticism. I dont LIKE being dumped on. Theres a difference - at least HERE. You're not helping, Bear. Really. You're just making me feel like even MORE of a minority here.

If you guys think so very little of us why let us join your board? I mean, according to your own words we have a LOT of problems so why let us in? Surely the place would be better off with out us troublesome Americans, right, bear?

This thread was awesome for the first bit. I even commented on it. It was polite, respectful and congenial. To the point where I almost PMd a bunch of you to point that out. And now look? You have me feeling singled out simply because of my culture and history. I'm sorry mate but thats discrimination no matter how you slice it.

With you statement you made it You vs Us even more clearly.

Et Tu Bear? So much "the problem with you americans" on here... wow....

The funny thing is I don't think of us as different at all until one of you guys points that out with a joke or a jab or a criticism about how we're doing it wrong.... think about that. I see us as brothers - the same.

YOU dont.

You guys LOVE to take the piss out of us Americans and for the most part I laugh it off with you, but at times it can be a bit much. You dont see us as equals, do you? Just admit it so we can get it out in the open and deal with it.

Would just like to point out, free trans-Atlantic hugs are now available. But not to you evil Mexicans.. i know your plans

Raz, if only the others shared your opinion. Seems like we Americans just plain suck.

Sorry for that.

Just woke up and have an all day BB seminar in 40 mins or so.
However!

I don't think it has ever been a point of seeing as equals. We -if i can say we-just don't say you as superior. We don't see your achievements in the same light as you do. And for the most part we look to how you got your achievments, usually from getting the technology from outside the US.

I know loads of Americans, and for every ignorant one Iv met , I have met 2 or 3 that can school me in a lot of things.
Just look at that economic thread stephenk was rape age.

Raz

Edit:

And you probably don't see us in the same light we see ourselves this is natural. You know Regan and Thatcher used to argue for hours and hours in private, but would always support each other when needed, when it counted in public.

There are a lot of people, here who still don't realise we are bearly just a great power these days and slipping to middle power status on a daily bases. We are in denial!
Especially the right wing conservative based

Actually I really like Americans, especially small town Americans. They are some of the best people I met in the world and I've travelled a whole lot. I like them far more than most of my own country men.

However, Americans have some horrible blinds spot. Scots have plenty too however we have one notable difference. When we are faced with our failings we don't run off crying and claiming persecution.

America isn't a young nation anymore. It needs to stop acting like it. It's long overdue a sit down and hard look at itself to re-examine it's values and behaviour. Most of western Europe is in good need of the same thing.

Mikey you are symptomatic of that problem too. You've been told some historical facts that have shown the version of history you were taught was incomplete. It would be like me getting annoyed at an Englishman telling me that Braveheart was complete nonsense. Instead of going out and finding out the complete picture you have said that us Brits are disloyal and anti-American. This behaviour is the same process that cause people to go crazy at perceived insults to Islam. It is simple cultural indoctrination. We all are given it but it is up to us as adults if we choose to perpetuate it. I chose not to and went out and read all the history books I could and learned most of the crap I was told about how "Great" Britain was ... well ... it was a pack of lies and half truths. Most of it was just greed and grubby politicking. It isn't us vs you. It's me saying go take an objective look for yourself.

The Bear.

Wow... all I read was judgement, judgement, judgement, Mikey sucks, judgement, judgement, judgement....

I never said "you brits" anything. YOU maybe anti american, but I have friends in the UK that have pretty much backed my take on things. So, I leave you with that. I only bang my head against a wall so long, Bear.

I dont have time to "go read all the history books I could", I have a job, family, etc which is far more imporant to me then finding some crumb of history I may not seem to see the same way you do. Sorry. My "life" is more important that your view of history.

I will say this, you brits are so ready to argue. I find it sad. You're so willing to go point for point, detail for detail. I coulnd't live like that. The very thought depresses me. I don't want to have to go through life so ready to argue every inconsistancy I stumble across. 98% of them really aren't that important. Most of what y'all argue on this board doesnt change lives or benefit you directly in any way. It doesnt help pay your bills or improve your life but you'll argue it to the teeth.

I'll never understand that.

Thanks for admitting its YOU against us. I appreciate that honesty at least.

Another childish American:

Just FYI....

Mikey , step back from the thread and calm down mate , you're letting your emotions run away with you , it's really not worth it

I think despite your ego Mikey, we aren't important enough to affect international relations. I suppose you could call president Obama and ask him to sever ties. Or you could protest the British Embassy with a placard say "STOP READING! YOU ARE RUINING MY IGNORANCE".

What quality friends you have. If he was in Libya I'm sure he'd be killing ambassadors with his boots.

The Bear.

Wow, I guess your sarcasm meter got replaced by you overly developed need to argue things that dont effect anything. Sorry, I'll remember that moving forward.

My friends are of the highest quality - which is why I dont count you among them

And to call me ignorant is pretty sad, Bear. I guess when you Brits run out of things to argue you just make things personal til you feel better.

But yet, you're worthy of judging me. Intersting.....

Sorry, just noticed you're a Scott. I apologize for that before you feel the need to be pedantic and drag this even further into the muck.

He he he he. I guess ALL the toys are out the pram now. Calm down now mate. Here's a wee vid to restore the love.
