Verizon cell upgrade policy?

I used to have Alltel, but as you probably know they combined with Verizon. I'm completely unaware of their policy as far as upgrading goes. I'm due for a phone upgrade on August 13th, but I think with Alltel I was sometimes able to get it about a month or so early. Is Verizon similar in this way? How does upgrading with them work?
 
Yes, you can upgrade a few months earlier than the end of your contract with Verizon, if you renew the contract. Check the verizon website or visit a store for details.
 
You are not able to upgrade until the actual upgrade date or later. Plus you are also required to sign up for a new 2 year contract to get the discounted prices for any of the new phones you are thinking of getting.
 
with verizon u can get the upgrade about a month early and u get $100 off. and u can get an upgrade every 1.5 years. (1 year 6 months)
 
With Verizon you can upgrade almost anytime for the normal retail price, but if you wait for you 2 year contract you get the sale price of starting a new contract;)
 
You have to wait until your contract is up to get a new phone normally or the price will be more expensive
