I learned in my Art studies that Voodoo got a bad rap. But, that it is a valid religion and practiced in many African and Spanish cultures. I hail from Louisiana, and no body plays with it. Many people believe in Voodoo there.

Look what happened to Haiti.

EDIT:

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are [these]; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told [you] in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

(Galatians 5:19-21)

I am assuming spiritism is practiced in the voodoo religion.

That being said: From a

political standpoint, its neutral.

Biblical standpoint: Deuteronomy18: 10-12, Galatians 5:19-21

The reason why Christians believe that is bad is because the Bible strongly condemns the use of spirit mediums, magic, fortunetellers, etc.

At Deuteronomy we see that it is a sin. This is because anyone who believes in contacting the dead means that they believe in the Satan's lies about death

side point
(which is that there is an immortal spirit- Ecclesiastes 9:5 "the living are conscious that they will die, but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all." and Psalms 146: 4 "His spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground; in that day his thoughts do perish." John 11:11-14 " 'Lazarus our friend has gone to rest, but I am journeying there to awaken him from sleep.'...Jesus said to them outspokenly: 'Lazarus has died.'")
end of side point

and in doing so willingly go to 'contact' them. This is actually seeking advice from people who endeavor to draw power from Satan and his demons( knowingly or not).

Such a person thus identifies himself with those who are avowed enemies of God.

ok. i hope that helps you understand why Christians do not tolerate it.

Its a nice combination with the demonic expelling for the Haitians, they go seriously mad and kill little girls, because they think they are witches if they just look strange. "Vodouisants believe in a supreme being called Bondye, but also worship many lesser spirits, as the loa. This belief is held in several West African religions, such as that of the Yoruba, Odinani, and Vodun. When it came in contact with Roman Catholicism, the supreme being was associated with the Judeo-Christian God, the loa becoming the saints." So there are really voodoo Christian Haitians. You can find out more about the witch killings, I mean the little girl killings, online.

Yeah, the Louisiana Vodousisants, brought over that tradition. It can be used as way to express anger and resentment, instead of dealing things socially. They take a doll and punish it, rarely treating it nicely. Its a kind of toy playing, as far as I know, though some quantum effects could exist, I doubt it.
