Hi I have a VW golf mk3 GSX (1.8i) , and its sucking fuel like dont know what. This model doesnt have a mass air flow sensor ( well I cant locate it anywhere on the pipes going to the air filter) , also I noticed it overfuels (exhaust burning black with a +- 2mm black residue in it). It started when I replaced the timing belt (had it rechecked by another mechanic and let them do the timing over 2 times alrady). Serviced it aswell and still no improvement. The car also idles lower than usual (850 to 900 rpm exactlike like this guys mk3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6QU_Ra5ggc ) . I get 350km on a 55 litre tank. now thats real bad. Checked for leaks and nothing. Im spending a fortune on fuel and cant live like this anymore. Any ideas what the problem can be? also the temp guage is working correctly so dont thinks its that (sum guy said its that then the ecu thinks its cold and runs in more fuel but dont think its that). Any ideas? im despirate
