What are these mystery sounds coming from my Ipod as it's hooked up to my car stereo?

This ones a two-parter: First, when I hookup my ipod to play through my car's stereo, I hear this loud popping noise from my speakers when I insert the connecting cord into the headphone jack of my ipod. Is that normal? Does it do any harm to my car's stereo?

Second, when I have my car charger hooked up to the ipod, you car hear a sort of humming and whistling noise through the music and even when there's no music playing. Again, is that normal and if not, is it harmful to my ipod.

Most likely you're just hearing when the iPod and the metal prong connect. It's not bad, but not great. No damage. If the music plays with out the popping you're good to go.

And usually the second thing, the humming, is normal. I use an iTrip and when it's not playing a song you hear a faint hum. Nothing to worry about.
