What are your thoughts on tv's with built in dvd payers?

I am looking to buy a new tv. I went to Walmart and the worker said the only problem with the ones with the dvd player is that once the dvd player breaks you cannot use the tv anymore. The tv I am looking at is somewhere else. But the Walmart worker suggested I buy a more expensive model in their store. Was this a sales pitch to get me to spend more money or is that really true. The tv I am looking at does have all the hook up things in the back, so I would think if something happened to the dvd player I could just hook up a new one and that the tv would still work. Anyone know if that is true?

Thanks...

They're generally best avoided but if you MUST have one, do not go for a cheap make you've never heard of. Premium manufacturers such as Toshiba, Samsung and Sony now have TV with integrated DVDs now. So whilst they're the better bet, I'd much rather choose a TV you like the picture and sound (and price) of then match (if you can) with a upscaling DVD player.

Upscaling DVD players will make the picture from an ordinary DVD disc, near HD quality through a cable called HDMI.

My advice is stay away from the DVD/TV. I got one for my son when he was in college and it stopped working and never could get it fixed right. Plus it's so expensive to repair you might as well buy a new one, which is what the stores want you to do. Buy them separate, infact have all of your components separate, you'll be happier with your system.
