What blue ray drive is a ps3 40gb have?

Doesn't matter, because if you change out the whole drive, it will never work again. Each drive is synced to the motherboard, so changing out the drive causes the new drive to never work, because you can't sync the new drive with the motherboard.

If you are going to try to get the Blu-ray drive to work again, you can only change out the lens (which houses the Blu-ray laser and DVD laser), or the motor assembly.

The drive must stay in tact in the PS3, changing the lens or motor will not effect the drive, as far as it being synced to the motherboard.
