what disc formats do the sony blu-ray player play?

I have been having issues playing a burnt movie on a dvd+r and have not had the time to see if a dvd-r works. Please tell me if I can load dvd-/+ r on this player. I have the blu ray player bd-p1500, are there different models out there that can play these. This is the sony BR disc player.
