...Junk Food? Recently, my 8 year old son told me he don't want potato chips no more because a kid at school told him that they are garbage.

A few days later my son pointed out the boy and his parents to me and these people looked well-toned, the mother has a bigger six-pack than I do.

I struck up a convo. with the father and he said he don't believe in kids eating "s*it" meaning junk food that poisons their bodies. He feels kids should learn young how to take care of themselves with their diets.

I didn't want to argue with him but I felt that the kid is missing out on some of the "joys of life" if they are forbidden from candy, snacks, cookies... I don't know.

Is it good to raise your kids anti-junk food?

It isn't going to hurt the child any way and that child will be a healthier person. there is nothing wrong with not letting a child have junk food. When I have children they will be able to have junk food but not with high fructose corn syrup, MSG, or trans fat. there is plenty of junk without that in it. I am sure the the children will be fine too.

I would say yes and no. I feel that junk food is ok....in very small moderation.

It's more important to teach kids restraint, instead of restriction.

Are you kidding me? Eating food that has no nutritional value and can only bring you obesity, diabetes and hypertension is not one of the "joys of life." I applaud those parents for bringing their kids up with a healthy perspective on food, although I do question what they're teaching their children in terms of body image.
