What dream are these people speaking about when they say Obama fulfilled it?

Can't be Martin Luther King's, can it? I mean as I understand it his dream was that race would no longer be an issue. How is that compatible with calling an election historic because a black man gets elected, historic because of the color of someones skin?

Can anyone explain? Thanks in advance
