What is a good freeware DVD player for my old laptop?

I have an older laptop I acquired from a police auction and I loaded Windows 7 RC on it as I didn't have enough to buy XP or Vista. I know it has a DVD drive, but I can't get anything except Windows Media Player 12 to play the disc (and I am not a fan of Windows Media Player). Does anybody have a suggestion regarding a free download for a DVD player so I don't have to worry about buying anything else for the moment?

The DivX player is freeware and works quite well. Do an internet search for it.
