I am (or will be soon) looking for a good SUV that handles snow/ice fairly well. I would also like it to have a decent stand up against those cinders left on the road.

I realize tires are a big part of the equation, and chances are i will have new, or dedicated tires for the winter, for whatever SUV i get.

I am not too worried about Off-road stuff, however it has come to my thought that off-road would probably fair better on back roads in the snow.

I live in North East Pennsylvania, so i see a decent amount of snow every year, and some of the roads leading to my house are not easily accessible once the snow comes down.

In an SUV, i am looking for a few categories (in no particular order) as follows:

Daily drivability (i.e comfortable ride, fuel economy..etc)
Reliability (maintenance: breaks, engine repairs and such)
4x4, AWD either or. a must
How it handles in and out of snow.

Basically i am looking for a good winter SUV. it would be my daily driver from November-March (snow season in Pennsylvania). I do go snow boarding so i would also be taking it up mountains and stuff.

my price range is between 4 and 9 grand.
