What is the best way to make a scratched disc play on ps2 ?

it is only scratched at a medium level it played before now it wont any suggestions besides going and buying a new one not because im too poor or lazy its because they dont make the disc and game anymore ?? help would be greatly appreciateed
 
Many stores that sell games also have the option of taking in your old games that have scratches on them and some way of but I'm not sure how they remove all the scratches. I've seen that they use some kind of machine and have been told it doesn't cost too much to get it done. Maybe a few dollars. I'm not sure which stores do this but some do.
