What is the difference between a DVD drive and a DVD rewriter?

Please help! I really need DVD optical drive for my Netbook, and all of the DVD drives are discontinued from LG and all that is left are DVD rewriters. Thanks(:

The differance in DVD drives

it is my understanding (though i could be wrong) that a DVD driver will only read a disk, a CDRW/DVDROM drive will write to CD's but only read DVDs, a DVDR drive will Write to blank DVDs (a 1 time process) and DVDRW drives will write to ReWritable disks in a similar way to using a hard drive, using a program like InCD.
As for your discontinued netbook, try doing a search on EBAY, there are often old system pulls for sale.
