I'm trying to buy a new dvd drive. What is the difference between the two?

DVD RW can read and write DVDs.
but DVD ROM can only read DVDs.
I recomment DVD RW.

MMR is correct, DVD+/-RW can read and write single layer DVDs, and DVD-ROM drives can only read DVDs, and there is also a DVD+/- RW DL drive standard that can read and write Dual layer DVDs, which hold twice as much information as a standard DVD. I would recommend getting the dual layer burner, since they are all pretty cheap as of right now(I got my Dual Layer Burner for 35$ at frys over a year ago)
