J JLee1 New member Mar 31, 2010 #2 a dvd writer can write data onto a dvd disc AND read data from a dvd. however a dvd drive will only read dvds. if you dont plan on burning any dvd's you should be fine with the dvd drive. your wallet would appreciate it too

S SplashLog Member Mar 31, 2010 #3 DVD player, can only read disks. A DVD writer can create and read DVD disks. Get a DVD writer, as it can do both.
