what settings should I change on my laptop in order to connect it to an LG LCD?

I have a Toshiba laptop (Satellite L645-S4102) and LG LCD ,what settings should I change on my laptop in order to connect it to the LCD? plz give direct and easy instructions! I've tried some,but they didn't work! Thnx

Start, Control Panel, Appearance and Personalization, Adjust Screen Resolution" and click once. A small window displays two monitors labeled 1 and 2.
Click Identify icon and a large "1" appears on one monitor while a large "2" appears on the other.
Select Multiple Displays, Select Extend these displays, Apply The desktop is now extended. Adjust Resolution and Orientation to complete the customization, your welcome.
