What to expect from my college course called "Introduction to Music Theory"?

What to expect from my college course called "Introduction to Music Theory"?

This is my last elective I need to take in order to graduate. I'm not a huge music player, will I do good in this class? Should I study certain things before I take this class, like guitar or whatever? Over-all, what is the concept of this class?
 
If it's intended for non-majors you should be fine. If it's for majors it will be a lot tougher.

You should probably learn to read all four clefs (if you don't already) and basic piano. You might want to practice sight-singing as well.

Music theory examines the basics of how music is constructed - you'll likely learn about the structure of musical pieces and how music has changed over the centuries.
