What to expect on my first cruise?

So tomarrow I'm going on my first cruise around the gulf of Mexico. All I know is that it is Carnival, but my mom is known for booking cheap things. What should I expect for the cruise? What do you do?
 
I was just on a cruise, which was Royal Carribean, and it had mini golf, pools, rock walls, basketball courts, ping pong tables, and excellent food. Although I heard Carnival wasn't the greatest, so don't have high expectations. Plus with winter vacation, LOTS of kids will be there...
 
I had a great time on my cruise. I traveled Royal Caribbean but its basically the same. There is a lot more to do than you think. Great food and restaurants. The ship had a mall basically with different stores. Now if you get alcohol off the ship you cannot drink it you have to store it on the ship (so you can buy their alcoholic drinks). It's the greatest feeling waking up in the morning and looking out your window and seeing a brand new place in the world to explore.
