What's the big deal about the Day of Silence (you must read my rant!)?

I HATE this day. I'm just a normal person - I like guys like 50% of the frickin' population. I don't make a big deal out of it, so people leave me alone. Believe me, I live in a pretty conservative place, but I don't go around shoving "gay" in people's faces, right? Gay guys who do that get beaten up on A LOT. I've been places with my boyfriend and no one's cared because we don't get all "we're homosexual!" on them.

I don't even consider myself part of the LGBT thingy. It's not my "identity", it's the people I'm attracted to, geesh!

So the Day of Silence rolls around, and suddenly, people are picking on me the way they only do when there are these gay activist things. They don't pick on the people being silent, because then they'd get read the riot act or whatever, but they pick on me, the dude trying to avoid this bull. It's like if you're gonna be gay, you HAVE to be a super activist.

I swear if they stopped acting like it was SUCH A BIG DEAL, people would leave them alone. I'm tired of these huge rights movements. It's like this universal peer pressure amongst gay people, like we all HAVE to be protesting and rioting and whatever. I think it's stupid...

And if you want to remember the people who were killed because they were gay, why not make it a little more broad, like people who were killed because of who they were? Why put the victims sexual life on blast again? I don't think it's cool.

Gooo ahead, call me a bigot, I get called it allll the time. But explain.
