professional wrestling usually features striking and grappling techniques where as MMA is a full contact combat sport that allows a wide variety of fighting techniques and skills, from a mixture of martial arts traditions, to be used in competitions.

The rules allow the use of both striking as well as grappling techniques, both while standing and on the ground.

Most versions of Professional Wrestling are now billed (and operated) as "Sports Entertainment". As such, the story lines that you see are scripted. The matches generally script the winner (often with the "winning move/maneuver"). Additionally, a lot of the time, professional wrestlers do not go by their actual names, and the information about them is generally changed to fit the storyline or scripted background.

Add to this the fact that many times even the "goodness" or "badness" of a professional wrestler is manipulated and scripted, and you have a entertainment program that bases its actions as "sports". Think of professional wrestling as a "Sports Soap Opera".

MMA, on the other hand, is attempting to establish itself as a bone fide sport. As such, the outcome is not scripted. The crowd reaction of an MMA fighter is not necessarily manipulated or scripted. There is no choreography in MMA fighting (unlike professional wrestling).

That's the difference: one is sports entertainment programming, the other is 'simply' a sport. Hope that helps.

are you slow? mma aint fixed, thats why when a guy gets hit you actually see swelling and blood, not like wwe where a guy takes 10 chair shots and nothing happens to him. How about you go to an mma gym fight the worst guy in the gym and see how quick he chokes you out.

Are you serious??

Pro wrestling is 95% fake.
It's muscle heads with mirror-practice hype building tactics for money. It's all Bull sh**. A bunch of clowns prancing around a ring.

MMA is 100% real.

Individuals trained in combat. When someone is knocked out, they are knocked out..for real. Being punched in the face is as real for these guys as body slams are as fake for "pro" wrestlers.

MMA is a state sanctioned sporting event with actual referees and judges, and the fighters actually compete, further the sport is the attraction. On the other hand pro wrestling is a event, much like a concert or monster truck show, it is for entertainment purposes and well scripted in order to amuse audiences for the spectacle and not for the sport.
