Yes there is a difference between the two.
Religion speaks about, and insists, that the doctrine of separation and the doctrine of sin are true. This makes you a mere, sinful and weak, supplicant before God (who is a judger and condemner and throws souls into hell). Separation says that God is separate from you and sin says that you are inherenty born as a defective, crippled soul.
Spiritualism refutes and moves past, the doctrines of separation and sin. Spiritualism is not concerned with ownership, that is, they have no temples, churches, land, stocks and bonds, and billions of dollars in assets, as does organized religion. Spiritualism is unconcerned with material wealth, and worldly power because we know, the world is an illusion. Spirituaists believe in wholeness, that is, there is no sepration between God and yourself, We are ONE with God. Spiritualists believe in a God who only creates perfection, never defect. That means, you are perfect and seen by God as perfect. This means then, that God does not judge or condemn, that there is no hell, Satan, the devil or sin. Everything is rectified by God to perfection, for the world, is nothing but an illusion - an illusion is not real and therefore no matter what you do here, it is not real either. This is how you can be perfect, but live under an illusion of imperfection. Religionists have not gotten to this stage of thinking yet. They have not moved beyond the confines of judgment and damnation which is their central thesis. In fact, religionists know more about hell and the devil than they do about God.
