When did it become OK to bash other people's religion?

As I look through the questions on here, I see a large number of people who seem so angry with other religions, Christianity in particular - and I don't understand why they see it alright to make up allegations, slurs, and rude remarks against them. There are bad apples in every bunch - that's just a fact of life. Our country was founded on the premis of Freedom of Religion so people can choose for themselves what to believe - whether it be Muslim, Christian, Athiest, etc. Why is it necessary to bash what you don't understand, or what you don't believe, instead of learning more about it & voicing what you believe rather than condemning what you don't? Isn't Freedom of Religion part of what makes us individuals, and isn't individuality supposed to be a beautiful thing?
