I bought a brand new c class mercedes on the 1st of march 2009. I have had the vehicle for 10 days and the car wasnt aligned correctly from the front headlamp and bonet as there was a bigger gap on one side. Also the rear black plastic plate was sticking out from the midle. Therefore the dealership rectified this under warranty. And now today i was outside wiping down the alloys with a cloth and noticed that the two alloy wheels are not painted correctly. There are visible unpainted bits on the alloy wheel. I took the car to the dealership today and they said it is manufacturing defect and they would replace under warranty. I have had this brand new car for 10 days and had so many problems. My car was taken apart from the front to be realigned and the alloys need to be replaced. This is a joke, i paid for quality and got a defective car. Where do i stand with the dealership ???? Do i have the right to reject vehicle or claim compensation ?? I Spent 31000 on this vehicle its making me depressed and i cant stop thinking about all the faults that i have found within 10 days. What should i do ??? am i able to reject the vehcle under sales of goods act 1979 ??

They are very good at dealing with problems and i think you should ask for a replacement. We had some very miner problems with ours and they were very helpful.

See all makes of cars have manufacturing defects. And you expect S class quality in a much less C class car. As long as there are no defects causing the car to be unsafe your car is yours. And in America lemon law allows an owner to return the car. If the dealership cannot repair the car with in 30 days or three return trips to the shop. Aligning a fender is relative minor problem that the make ready should of fixed but they missed.

You'll need to watch the wording of the sale of goods act on this one, I'm sure you'll find the garage has the right to replace, repair or refund in respect of any defects, and as such the garage is fulfilling its requirement under this act.

However I believe there is a "no lemon" law in this country (UK) now which means if you have bought a new car which keeps breaking down, or has a recurring fault which cant be fixed you have the right to a replacement vehicle.

As JG said, Merc dont build good cars any more, their quality has been questionable since the early-mid 90's.

Hope you dont have any more probs with your new car

You could contact the Office of Fair Trading, Trading Standards or the Citizens advice bureau for definitive information.

Merc dealers are some of the around. Speak to them and they will sort it out for you. When I got mine they offerred a 30 day no quibble return policy. I am certain that they still do it.

You certainly do have the right to reject this car under the sale of goods act. Mercedes just don't have the build quality that they used to - you probably wouldn't have these issues with a BMW, Honda, Lexus or Toyota, even on a car costing half as much.
Tell them to stuff their overpriced heap & spend your money with a company that can build cars.
You can expect teething troubles, or minor hiccups, but misaligned body panels is unforgivable on a brand new car, as are any paint or lacquer defects. Were M-Bs quality control bods on holiday the day your car was shipped?
