Which is better to shoot, handheld w/ an Image Stabilizer on, using a Tripod or ...?

Well, I have to agree with the above answer. All the information is good. It really depends on what you are shooting, the lighting, and the shutter speed. I personally use a tripod in low light, and for my kids i do hand held. Only because they move so much it is easier for me to hold it.

It depends upon the shutter speed you require for your exposure and what you are shooting.

If you require shutter speeds slower than 1/30 of a second, you really should use a tripod with the stabilization off.

If you can use a faster shutter speed then you could shoot hand-held with the stabilization on.

If you have a stationary subject, why not take advantage of a tripod? You have all the time you need to set it up.

If you are shooting something that you need to follow, then hand-held is the way to go even if you have to bump up the ISO a bit to get a fast enough shutter speed.
