...expect anything more than 'tolerance'? And is even to be tolerated too much to ask in some religions?

It's called the Velvet Reformation. He is moving along with his agenda for Gay rights in the Anglican Community.
He's a staunch intellectual, has a rigid Orthodoxy but is progressive in the area of gay rights which caused an uproar at the Lambeth Conference - 10-year meeting of world Bishops.
