The federal government doesn't recognize gay marriage for federal tax purposes and all but 5 states don't recognize gay and lesbian marriage for state tax purposes. My partner and myself were recently assessed $50 more a month for an educational assessment tacked on to our property taxes. We have no children who use the public schools. Why should we have to pay for straight people's carpet munchers? In America gay and lesbian people are treated as second class citizens.
