Why are parents still buying those big SUVs to haul their litters around in?

They get terrible gas mileage and they're less safe than other vehicles. They are prone to roll over, more difficult to maneuver and if you don't get 4X4 they perform worse on rain/snow than a front wheel drive car. Because of the height an SUV is easier to back over a small child in if it's not equipped with a rear-view camera. They're a hazard not only to their own occupants but to other motorists too with their large size and how high they sit. There are so many choices in wagons, minivans and car-bases crossovers now why do soccer moms still get monstrous SUVs?
Why do some people see this in black and white? It's not either SUV or smart car, I just gave examples of much better in-between choices. If people don't want to drive minivans maybe they shouldn't have so many kids that they need something with that much passenger room huh?
I don't like getting run down by soccer mom's SUV because she can't pay attention to the road with all those screaming kids in the back.

I have a car and my fiance has an SUV. We did it this way so we have a car for short trips...and we have an SUV for long trips and hauling things. SUVs have a lot of needed space.

And it's not just SUV drivers who can be crappy drivers. I dislike people with road rage who feel the need to vent and yell and criticize everyone else on the road (hint hint). I also dislike people who talk on the phone while driving because, inevitably, their complete attention is not on the road. And people in cars are just as likely to be screwing around with kids in the backseat as people in SUVs are.

You just sound a tad bit obnoxiously bitter right now.

Well now of days the MPG are better, technology aids SUVs from roll overs like my GL550, I prefer being in a SUV vs a smart car. Mom's don't want to be a soccer moms in a mini van.

My family lives out in the country. They have big trucks because they need them for all kinds of wood hauling, boat hauling, winter sports equipment hauling, bikes hauling, dead deer hauling stuff. But I am always shocked when I see people who live in the city using these. It is a nightmare to park, the gas is expensive. They can have them, I don't care. Just seems a little vain.
