Why are people so obsessed with celebrities?

I thought those creepy celebrity stalkers were rare, but now I'm seeing them everywhere in tween form(you know what fans I'm talking about). They are pshyco, talking about the celebrity all the time. And girls especially think they will marry their heart throb. What causes these normal people to go insane over another human being?
