Because they are trying to lock in another voting group for the Democratic party. Racial discrimination is all but gone in most of the United States, in a generation that will cease to be a voting block so they have to find another voting block to fill it's place. The Democratic party wants to project itself as the defender of the downtrodden, with fewer and fewer downtrodden, they have to invent some.

i am not a politician or a liberal, however i think they should keep it to themselves, i do not go around talking about my girlfriend or having marches to show her off because i know people do not care, there is a reason it is called PRIVATE LIFE, and when they understand this i could support them but not while they want to throw their lifestyle on me unwanted. then call me a homophobic for not kicking my beliefs to the curb, My private life is private, such as yours and such as gay's.
