Why aren't Blu Ray discs blue?

I work in a library where DVDs are loaned out. Recently we've started lending Blu Rays. Do you know how difficult it is to sort DVD's from Blu Rays? They look the same, and unless you really look at the label, it's easy to get them in the wrong place. Then there are the people who return them very disappointed because they could not view the Blu Ray because....yep. Not a DVD. We're considering getting some stickers to help, but why did they make them the same color as DVDs? If you opened the box and saw a blue disc, you'd know it was most likely a Blu Ray and not a DVD. Yes, they DO make colored DVDs, some of the educational ones are colored. Some of the books on DVDs are colored. Even if there was just a stripe of color on it would help us and our patrons greatly!

there is a difference, if you hold the disc up to the light you can see the lable come through from the other side. Also the case it comes in should have a blue top and say blu-ray on it. Also i think it is that the laser that actually reads the disc is blue.

welll....the actual cases are blue.... so yea...blue ray.. and also the word Blu has to do with using a blue-violet laser which has a shorter wavelength than a red laser which makes it possible to focus the laser spot with even greater precision. This allows data to be packed more tightly and stored in less space, so it's possible to fit more data on the disc even though it's the same size as a CD/DVD.

stickers would definitly help
