I can never understand why theatre productions are never recorded and released on home video. I can understand why they dont release a DVD while its still in its run, so they dont loose out on ticket sales, but they can release it after its run but they dont. It seems so bizzare to me because its not going to cost them a lot of money to record a show and all they have to pay for is the duplication of discs which costs next to nothing and they can make that up with the sales of the home video. Look at for example the 2009 Oliver production which was met with good reviews but when it finishes is they wont release a DVD so can anyone tell me why?
They can record it during a dress rehearsal without an audience.
