Why do obsessed fans kill/attempt to kill celebrities?

I'm actually curious about the mentality. We are getting into these types of behavior now in my Psychology class. I can see the harassment and stalking of someone when a fan is obsessed but I don't understand the point where they cross that line and decided to kill the celebrity.
 
If they(the fan) can't have them(the celebrity), then nobody else should.

That's how I felt about a girl.
 
I've always wondered that too;
if you were that into somebody would you want to harm them?
then again, these are irrational people, who don't think the same as us.

Maybe it is because they are more envious than obsessed- jealous. By killing them, it shows that they are better than what they saw as 'perfect'. Maybe now they feel like they 'own' them?
