Why do people get so mad if you don't greet them or socialize with them?

I'm not a gregarious person, i don't enjoy small talk, i'm highly introverted, so i do not go out of my way to greet every person i see, i don't care if someone ignores me, as long as someone is not being mean to me i don't care, it seems to me most of the individuals who take offense to this are the extreme extroverted people who need to have every ones attention and take a pissy fit when they do not get it.
But why does it seem like people get to cherry pick what social norms they want to follow? Seems like bullshit.

well, u are living in a society not Living in a cave some where. Its not that hard to say good day to people in passing.

Its not that people need their ego's stroked... Its just that they chose to live happily. they know if they didn't greet anyone with a smile or a head nod or simply say good morning then the ugly looks will come its just how it goes. social eetiquette

the only time i hate when my neighbors do this is when they come up to me while i'm on my cell and so now i'm being rude to the person on the phone. or if i'm in a rush, or other circumstances. but i know for the most part i'm friendly with them so they need to get over it when i'm not able to stop and chat or etc... i get tthatpart. but if tthere'sno other reason to not say hello cos ur just in "introvert" then u need to get over that.

because you are bursting their bubble that you don't have to worry about. people be like that sometimes. L o l

You must be a very young person if you have not yet worked out that it is considered just plain rude to pass someone you know and not say a word to them. Commenting on your lack of manners is not a "pissy fit"
