I complain about the cost of the VET, not that they get sick and injured! I had to take one cat to the vet yesterday for a scorpion sting (yes, we have scorpions around here!) and the exam, a "double dose" of steroids, and an antibiotic cost me $92 !! Tonight, I have one of my OTHER cats with a half-swollen face with an injury. She's not as bad as the other one was, so I will keep my eye on her.
Earlier this week, we found one of the "outdoor cats" dead on the road, too! It was one of our "nameless" outdoor/feral cats, but still, it happens. And "Papa" cat has been limping for almost a week now... again, the outdoor/feral cats.
What I can help with, I do. What I can't I can only let nature take its course.
But cats can get sick and injured being INSIDE cats, too. I had 2 get sick and DIE after they did not "react" well to being anesthetized to have them groomed. I've had my indoor cats get sick, injured as well as the outdoor ones.
It's like having children. Children get sick and injured ALL the time, it's part of their lives. But would we give up our children? NO! Do we COMPLAIN about their illnesses and injuries? Heck YEAH!
But it is NOT "obvious," and I wish you would stop making such a generalization. Yes, indoor cats live longer and get sick less, but we ALL have a right to complain about whatever we want to complain about.
I made that last part up myself. – Thumper
