Why do people think Godsmack is bad but it's not about religion?

They got it from an Alice In Chains song ("Godsmack" from the album Dirt) and "smack" is about heroin abuse. The "God" part is about how heroin makes you think you only need the drug. I can see where people get religion from but no. And pretty sure they used to be an Alice In Chains cover band
