Why do people think ugly famous people are hot?

If you take a good look at them, without thier makeup they are mostly very average, at best.

Why do millions of people like them and think they are hot ? Is it because they think other people think they are hot ?

Edit: Thanks. The only reason people think that they're hot is because, the media tells them that "They're hot" or "They're sexy" and they just agree with them. But honestly I wouldn't call them ugly, they just get way too much credit for there looks.
