Why do people think you can't have morals without religion?

It's not like atheists are any more likely to do bad things than religious people. It's really the other way around; history is chalk-full with wars, battles, and kills in the name of God. Plus I don't think it was the atheists who were so hell-bent on blowing up abortion clinics and burning witches.

What do you think?

I think there are moral people, amoral people and immoral people. Some live according to a religion and lead very good, moral lives. Some 'fall' and do immoral things, at least at times. Others are just hypocrites and bad.

Many atheists, agnostics and others who do not believe in God are very ethical and moral, based on other thinking than the Bible or something like that.

Then again, there are people who are very bad and immoral who do not believe in any religion. Sometimes they are people who were raised in a religion and rebel and turn against anything 'good' for a time.

It is really a matter of the individual. Some people turn from a life of 'sin' and become religious and moral, "Born Again Christians", etc. and others do not.
