Of course it's called the HIPPA law & it prevents any medical professional from discussing your health with anyone but you unless you fill out a release form stating that you want specific people to know & sign it.
that once a child turns 16 the doctor cannot talk infront of other members without the childs permission and in many cases refuse to do so if they believe it is in the best interest of their patient.
Because there are laws to protect patient confidentiality. Some people gossip as a matter of normal conversation. If family and friends were privy to patient info, the risk is high there would be a violation of patient confidentiality.
