Why does my 2005 Accord Sedan need a double din stereo and not the regular kind?

I currently got a 2005 Honda Accord LX sedan and wanted to replace the stock stereo but alot of people have told me that i am going to need a double din stereo for it. What's the difference with a single din compared to a double din? Would any double din stereo work for 2005 Accord? Or do i need specific ones? Please help.
