I mean, come on! I like the movies! I do! And it's a good idea, but the books are SO poorly written. I just wanna know how anyone finds this series so appealing?!?!?!
You better find your bomb shelter or a way to dissolve into the walls, becuase people are gonna come AFTER you for that.
J.K. Rowling is one of the best author's of the modern age in the genre of fantasy. Debatably, THE best in fantasy writing. Her books are well written with original plot lines, complex characters that develop, and an incredible world created on her very own. They are stories that appeal to all ages and all ranges, something hard to come by.
There is a REASON people are obsessed with Harry Potter. That reason is that they are very, very good books. The reason that other things such as *cough* Twilight are just as popular is because starry eyed teens want the perfect vampire boyfriend. Thats the difference.
You could argue that too. She's now one of the most wealthy people on the planet, and she would not have achieved that NOR written 7 long books and accomplished having movies to those stories.
Because they leave a lot to the imagination. Like what are other characters doing when Harry and his people are doing what they do.
And about magic in general. And about what's going to happen. And all sorts of things.
And it's well written and entertaining. I have to admit it's one of my favourite book series because there's so much that has happened, but so much is left up to me to decide on.
Wow, i'm beyond astonished that the words "poorly written" and "harry potter books" are even in the same sentence. The books is what MAKES the series and you must have "poor" imagination if you think J.K Rowling has no talent in being an author. She is one of the best authors of this decade. Your one in a million buddy so i guess look on the bright side that your as unique as they get. People wait outside of book stores the day before just so they can rush and get their copies. All for the amazing thing that is Harry Potter. To each his own, but your really missing out on something epic. Oh well for you.
I completely agree! I've tried reading the books SO many times, and just can't get into it! The movies were fantastic, I can't get enough of them. But, the books just aren't for me.
really? the movies are great but they leave out heaps of stuff and jk rowling's writing isnt poor, in fact, its pretty good. i admit its not the best that ive seen but then again thats just her style of writing and thats what makes the harry potter books so unique and interesting. i actually like the books more than the movies because its imaginative and captivating. its not until you actually read the books that you realise how much you miss out on. its practically everything about the books, the characters, the plot... that makes it appealing to others as shown by the success of the books worldwide.
Well, as far as I go, I definitely don't believe that Harry Potter is poorly written. Are you sure you're not confusing them with the Twilight books? Just kidding...sort of.
I guess the reason why everyone is "so obsessed" with Harry Potter is because they personally like them. We're all entitled to our own opinions. That being said, if you don't find the series appealing, people angrily replying to this telling you why they are awesome isn't going to give you a good answer. I find them appealing because it's a wonderful coming of age epic series that is expertly written and incredibly imaginative; her characters are so well fleshed out and I enjoy the plot.
[And I love the fact that someone above me quoted Bob Dylan. Dylan is a great love of mine, but he also said, "I am the spokesperson for my generation" and then repeatedly denied it in interviews. If you want to talk about a man doing what's popular, albeit doing it well, Dylan is the biggest hypocrite alive.]
You already answered your question. The books are poorly written. Think about it. Why does Transformers make hundreds of millions? Why does something so retarded as Star Wars last decades? Why do so many tune in to shows like "Paris Hilton's Best Friend"? Because people are, for the most part, not intelligent whatsoever. We're mainly just a mass of megalomaniacal simpletons.
Tell you what, Bob Dylan said it best. "Don't confuse what's good with what's popular."
