Why wierd sound comes from my dvd writer even if i have not inserted the disc ?

My dvd writer used to make wierd sound when i insert a dics
now even if i dont insert disc still the sound keeps comimg when i start my pc
why what is the problem ?
i dont think my dvd writer has damaged but i think something is stopping it from working correctl y
any aswer would be nice
