Will IOS 4 delete the music on my ipod that i got from multiple friends computers?

I have downloaded a lot of music from friends and i have them mostly on my ipod rather than itunes library. Im afraid that when i update the music saved on my ipod it will be deleted forever... is this true or will the music on my ipod be saved as is?
 
it will be deleted - if you make an update up to ios4. cause it has to restore it back to factory
then it resyncs everything from itunes.
